Wednesday feltmaking

I've been busy feltmaking this evening, using a variety of colours of merino wool. Very exciting.
So next plan is to let the felt dry and use it to make brooches decorated with beads and whatever else I can find. I'm thinking of scouring some second hand shops for more inspiration. It's up to Aberdeen for the weekend where I will hopefully be spending some time doing felt stuff. I'll update again when I have made some brooches- watch this space!

More felting fun!

Today I have been into Edinburgh to do some early xmas shopping which was fun. I also bought some new felt to work with and have decided to start to try and make some felt brooches. I'm quite excited about getting started. Hopefully by the end of the weekend I'll have some interesting pictures to share up here. Keep checking for updates!

Colin's the owner of my pot!

The Arty Farty Party was a great success, with loads of interesting pieces including a
pumpkin, some origami, messages in a bottle and a plasticine wave. Colin is now the owner of
my felt pot- he looks pretty happy. It's good that the pot now has a new home!... and he gets a free bottle of wine- not a bad deal! Colin is also an artist- you can check out one of his pieces here.

My Cards

I enjoy making my own cards, for friends and family. I use materials of different colours
and decorate them with embroidery and beads. Much fun to be had says El. Here's one of my cards, using pink material, leaves, beads and thread. I should really make more of these but the
process is very time consuming although good if I'm in a patient mood! What do you think?

Batik musings

My blog has been quiet for a few days as I have been busy with work in
St Andrews, Dundee and Perth. It's been quite a productive week although
I must say I am very happy it's now the weekend. Not just any weekend either.
The weekend of the Arty Farty Porty Party. And one of my felt pieces will get a
new home but where?

I have been trawling through old sketchbooks and found these batik pieces I made
years ago. I am hoping to work with the images digitally and change them a bit. What
do you think?

I'm hoping to post a pic here of the new owner of my felt pot after Saturday's party. Keep
checking my blog for updates!

Finished the website!

Spent all weekend developing my website. It's now nearly finished, a few minor changes still to make but it's almost there! Have enjoyed looking back through my earlier work and documenting it. I still have about two portfolios full of stuff including drawings, so the next post will be a bunch of various things, don't know when I'll get it posted. For now I'm going to concentrate on updating my blog on a regular basis!

These are some pictures from my previous website:

My latest exhibition was at the North Edinburgh Arts Centre in Pilton, Edinburgh in September 2006. The exhibition was called Berlin Street Art. Unfortunately the centre seems to be closing down and a campaign to keep the centre open has started. Check out http://www.northedinburgharts.co.uk/dept.asp?dept_id=4 for more details, and you can donate by paypal.

check out Veer North's website, it's full of excellent artwork!

another vessel! leave a comment to let me know what you think!

Vessels

I have started making vessels made out of felt. This is really fun and it's possible to make felt vessels in all shapes and sizes. For these ones I used a bottle and felted around the outside. It took a wee while to dry, but once off the bottle it dries quicker. Loads of hot soapy water makes it stick together, and it doesn't take long. I think I rubbed the felt for just 10/15 minutes, whereas flat felt pieces take a bit longer. This process is extremely satisfying, and you can use all colours. For the first piece I used blue and green shades with orange in the centre. For the second piece I used multicoloured merino and tried to experiment a little. Beads and embroidery are used to make it a little more interesting. Let me know what you think!

Embroidered felt

Here are some more images of my felt pieces

A few weekends ago, me and my friend Liles did a day of felting (fuelled with some nice food and wine). I got the merino wool and I bought myself a book to teach myself, and it was fun. Initially it didn't work and the felt pieces didn't mesh together, but after altering my technique and rubbing the felt for longer I began to start creating some interesting effects. I also started using embroidery threads and beads to embellish the felt and to make it more textured.

Various and felting fun!

I am developing my new website this weekend, and as part of it I have opened a blog with blogger.com. The purpose of my blog is to record the development of artworks, and to gain feedback from others. I'll also be posting images on a regular basis, of felting, knitting, photography and musings. Hope you enjoy my blog!
